StarCraft — Install and Setup
Getting the game
- Install StarCraft from the Battle.net app. The original game and Brood War, with classic graphics, have been free since 2017.
- StarCraft: Remastered is an upgrade sold through Battle.net: new high-resolution art, remastered audio and a widescreen view, with the same gameplay.
- Classic and remastered players can play together.
Playing online
- Online games, ladder matchmaking and custom games all run through Battle.net — no third-party client is needed.
- Use Map Settings (UMS) custom games still have a large following; you will find them in the custom game list.
Common fixes
- If the game will not start, use the Scan and Repair option in the Battle.net app.
- Old CD versions are not needed any more — the free Battle.net version replaces them.
Download only through Battle.net. Cracked copies and private servers are not allowed on our boards.
