Civilization V — Civilizations
The Complete Edition has 43 civilizations. Each has one leader, a unique ability and two unique units or buildings, which point it toward a style of play.
Examples by victory type
- Science: Babylon (Nebuchadnezzar II), Korea (Sejong).
- Culture: Brazil, France, Poland.
- Domination: the Zulu, Mongolia, the Huns.
- Diplomacy: Greece and Siam, who get more from city-states.
- Wide or unusual: Venice (one city, buys others), the Shoshone, Indonesia.
Choosing one
Pick a civilization whose ability works from turn one if you are learning — Babylon, Rome and Egypt are forgiving. Read the unique units' timing: a strong early unit makes an early war worth it.
