Warlock
The Warlock joined Diablo IV with Lord of Hatred on 28 April 2026 — a caster who does not fight Hell so much as conscript it, binding demons to serve and turning their own power back on them. It is the most mechanically layered class in the game.
Two resources
- Wrath — the standard spending resource, built by Basic Skills and regenerating in combat, spent on offensive spells.
- Dominance — spent to summon and command Greater Demons, and it regenerates slowly. Deciding when to spend it is the real puzzle of the class.
Class mechanic: Soul Shards
At level 30 you bind one of four Soul Shards, which ties a specific Greater Demon to you and rewrites the core loop:
- Legion — many lesser demons at once.
- Vanguard — a heavy demon that fights at the front.
- Mastermind — control, commands and manipulation.
- Ritualist — sacrifice and curse-driven power.
Skills and systems
Skills fall into Abyss, Command Fallen, Demonology, Hellfire, Defensive, Archfiend, Sigil and Ultimate families, feeding several layered mechanics:
- Hex — a debuff that stacks up to three times and amplifies Abyss damage. Build it on a target, then detonate.
- Volatility — instability that pays out when it breaks.
- Shadowform and Demonform — transformations that change what your skills do.
Common archetypes
- Summoner — Legion or Vanguard, an army of bound demons.
- Hex burst — stack the debuff, then unload Abyss damage.
- Hellfire — sustained burning area damage.
- Demonform — become the thing you command.
- Hybrid — demons for pressure, spells for the kill.
Not the class to pick first. Once the two bars and the Soul Shard click, nothing else plays like it.
